Meteorological Balloons

Today, atmospheric information is most often gathered by height-finding radar, remote sensing by earth-orbiting or stationary satellites, and aircraft instruments, with weather balloons augmenting the data. Meteorological balloons are used in the measurement and evaluation of mostly upper atmospheric conditions. Information may be gathered during the vertical ascent of the balloon through the atmosphere or during its motions once it has reached a predetermined maximum altitude.

Felix supplies meteorological balloon, weather balloon, sounding balloon from 10g to 2000g. These balloons are produced by rotational molding of natural rubber. Their uniform wall thickness prevent premature blowouts, and they are ozone resistant. Reinforced necks allow use in strong winds without tearing.

We provide two types, ceiling meteorological and sounding balloons:

Ceiling type Meteorological Balloons are usually used for applications such as determination of cloud base height. Ceiling type meteorological balloons are available in red, black and white colour. The ascent of these weather balloons is tracked using optical instruments.

Sounding type meteorological balloons are used to carry larger payloads, typically in the form of a radiosonde. A radiosonde includes which include sensors for air temperature, pressure, humidity etc. Depending on the size of the balloon it will fly to a certain height with the radiosonde payload. These sensors in the radiosonde communicate with ground receiving stations, constantly sending data streams with recorded informaiton. This information is then used by meteorologists for weather predicition.
